![]() Depending on how much this could make the Jutes powerhouses fast by killing units. Also they get monies for units destroyed. They get bonus for pillaging, which is awesome as it encourages the player to go on long-distance raids to pillage and burn towns outside his natural conquest area for economic benefits. Their faction bonus also seem awesome and rigged to raid. Since I don't really see the point in having two unique units that to exactly the same, one a little better than the other. Again I sort of wished "Huscarls" was made a pan-norse unit and "Royal Huscarl" was the unique one. They start in a better position map-wise than the others with easy access to go any direction (Except they don't have a city) and their unique units "Huscarls" and "Royal Huscarls" are the iconic burly viking warriors with Daneaxes. Out of the the three Norse factions, the Jutes easily have the best set-up. Their unit "Dragonship" and their faction bonus would only really become relevant if naval combat had a substantial overhaul and made more fun and understandable. The Danes is obviously rigged as a Naval faction, and for this I think they will be the least used. Thirdly I don't really think there's any reason Geats should have more emphasis on slave units than any other Norse faction and "Thrall Spears" might as well be a cheap "leves" unit for all the Norse. And "Horse Lords" in return is an obvious nod to Tolkien. ![]() I sort of wished their unique units would have been the "Horse Lords" instead, as 1: The Geats was apparently known for their great horses and mounted professional warriors, and 2: Tolkien apparently took inspiration for the Rohirrim from them. ![]() Their resistance to cold is a great asset though. Possibly the most boring pair of unique units I've ever heard of. So basically all they get is two bottom-tier spearmen units. The Geats unique units are "Thrall Spears" and "Thrall Spearmen" Which is weird considering "Thrall" means slave. Yeah I was going to play Saxons as well, but when I read about the Jutes I forgot all about the Saxons (Now I'm just gonna kill them) Snekkja Longship (Nordic Heavy Marauders)ĭrekkar Dragonship (Nordic Berserker Marauders) The fearless Huscarls hurl themselves into battle, carving a gory path through the enemy ranks with their axes. The Jutes are the ultimate profiteers in war, and gain significant income from razing settlements and destroying units in battle. To drive out the remaining Romans, subdue the belligerent locals, and foil the ambitions of their Saxon neighbours who also covet this green and pleasant land – the Juti have vowed no less! ![]() A successful conquest would be a great undertaking, and one requiring them to draw on the very depths of their fortitude. Should the Juti succeed in conquering Britannia, many more will no doubt be forged. The Juti leadership use the spoils of their raids to make exquisite, prestige goods. Accordingly, they are in the perfect position to profit from the slow collapse of Roman Britannia, and relentlessly plunder its coast as its defenders dwindle in number. As such, the Juti have always been the most intrepid of the Norse-speaking peoples, looking to distant shores or clashing over the sparse northern lands. The ocean laps the coasts of Juteland, summoning its inhabitants to new adventures and conquests. They have my favorite all time Total War units !
